If you would like to become a volunteer of the Motatapu, we would love to hear from you.
With over 3000 competitors we need more volunteers than ever, so please get involved!
What could you be doing?
Aid Station Volunteers
We have four aid stations on course to provide support to competitors. Two of the Aid Stations have to camp over night before race day. The Aid Stations are in remote locations and once you are there you cannot leave until the last competitor has passed your Aid Station.
This is a great way to see the country side if you don’t want to compete and there is a great feeling of satisfaction helping all the competitors as they traverse the course. The competitors really appreciate all the on course support from the Aid Station crews.
Marshalls
We need marshals everywhere! Glendhu Bay, along the Arrow River and Butlers Green, Arrowtown. You need to be confident and stick to your guns when people try and do what they are not meant to!
Information tents
We need volunteers to man the information tents (Glendhu Bay & Butlers Green, Arrowtown). You will be given information to be able to answer general questions and help direct competitors and supporters.
Transponder allocation & collection
We need people to allocate transponders at Glendhu Bay and also collect the transponders from competitors at the finish line.
Rubbish collection
We need people to help collect rubbish at the start line (Glendhu Bay) after competitors have left and at the finish line (Butlers Green, Arrowtown).
Runners
We need people to top up water containers at the finish line to make sure there is plenty of water available for competitors. We also need people to help out at the finish line with various duties, helping the timing crew, helping with prize giving to name a few.
Set up crew
We need people the day before race day (Friday 12 March) at Glendhu Bay and Butlers Green, Arrowtown to help set up the Start and finish line areas. This will involve some heavy lifting.
Pack down crew
We need people to help pack down the start and finish line areas.
What we ask from you:
- Attend a registration evening approximately one week before the event. Come along, receive your information pack, meet other volunteers and enjoy a beer and bite to eat. At the meeting we will ensure each volunteer is well briefed and suitably equipped with knowledge of their role and any health and safety requirements. If you can't attend the briefing you will be sent all the required information.
- Be available for Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th March (in case the reserve day is required and also for clean up if required), and if available for Friday set up.
What all our volunteers receive:
We are currently reviewing the volunteers package, details will be posted here once confirmed.
- Icebreaker top (branded Motatapu)
- Lunch - provide by Fresh Choice
- The official Motatapu magazine which includes some great specials from our sponsors
