PREPARING

It's completely up to you how much time and energy you devote towards preparing for the Motatapu but like most things, the more you prepare, the more you'll enjoy it! The things you'll need to think about before the race takes place are:

  • Personal preparation (eg. fitness & nutrition)
  • Event Transport and Accommodation (often sells out)
  • Compulsory Marathon Gear Check (Feb 16 - Mar 8)
  • Weather Conditions (layers, reserve day plans etc)

For further details on each of these, read on!

Training Advice

Information regarding general training and stretching advice will be made available to you after entering the event through your Iconic Profile. You may also like to consider a personalised training schedule as everyone's goals are very different. The maximum time you have to complete the Marathon event is determined by the cut off time of 12pm at Aid Station 2 (Aid Station 2 is 23km from the finish line). However, why not aim to do better than the maximum? Setting yourself a goal to finish the event within a certain time is a very positive way to approach the event. Even if you don’t make that time, at least you can say you gave it your best shot! After all, the better that you can prepare, the more you'll enjoy it!

Please be aware that it is not possible to train on the Motatapu Marathon course in advance due to it being private property.

Marathon Gear Checks

Gear Checks are compulsory for all Marathon competitors. They can only be completed between February 16 - March 8, 2012 at an official Motatapu store. To read more about the compulsory checks in more detail click here

Competitor Transport

Your Motatapu entry fee includes a free shuttle from Glendhu Bay to the Marathon start line on Motatapu Station, which is on private property.  You cannot drive your own vehicle to the start line, you must get the shuttle from Glendhu Bay. Entry fee does not include transport to or from Glendhu Bay or Arrowtown. We offer an optional competitor transport service on event day to competitors at an extra charge. This transport is often fully booked - book early to secure your spot! Click here to view and purchase transport options.

The event timing will remain the same regardless of the date. If there is a postponement this will be notified on the Motatapu website, Facebook page, More FM radio announcements.
