MARATHON GEAR CHECKS
Compulsory Items
Please bring the following items to one of our Motatapu Gear Check stores to be checked off by qualified staff:
Base Torso Layer
We recommend a technical t-shirt made of quick-drying fabric such as Icebreaker Superfine 150 or polypropylene. We do not recommend cotton fabrics.
Thermal Torso Layer
We recommend a long sleeved top made from a warm quick-drying fabric such as Icebreaker Superfine 200 or polypropylene. We do not recommend cotton fabrics.
Waterproof Jacket/Shell
We recommend a breathable jacket with a minimum of 10,000mm waterproofing. No ponchos! Jackets do not need to be seam sealed, although they will be more effective if they are.
Warm Hat
This is only compulsory if your jacket has no hood.
Personal First Aid Kit
Including bandages, plasters, tape, gauze, whistle and survival blanket. We also recommend carrying pain relief medication (e.g. Panadol) for headaches, sunscreen and electrolyte replacement powder (e.g. Gastrolyte) for cramps, along with other medications you might need (e.g. prescription or hay fever drugs).
Recommended Gear
As the weather can close in in this alpine region at any time of year, the following items are recommended, but not complusory:
- Warm tights: e.g. polyproplyene or Icebreaker tights
- Full fingered gloves: e.g. polyproplyene or Icebreaker gloves
- Quick dry shorts: recommended for added comfort!
