STARTING
GETTING TO THE START LINE
The start line for the Adventure Run is at the Fern Burn car park, at the northern end of the Motatapu Track. Fern Burn car park is located 15km from Wanaka, 3km beyond Glendhu Bay. Click here to download a map of the Glendhu Bay parking area.
Maps & Drive Times
Note that there will be heavy traffic flows heading towards Glendhu Bay on event day - please factor this into your travel time and take extreme care, watching for sudden stops in traffic. The Wanaka A&P show is the same weekend as the Motatapu so there will be a road closure in Wanaka on McDougall St between Brownston & Ardmore Streets. To download a map which includes driving times, distances, and recommended routes click here.
Drop Offs
Those being driven to the Fern Burn car park by a supporter can be dropped off at the Fern Burn car park. Camping and all day parking is not permitted at Fern Burn before or during the Motatapu event.
Parking and Free Shuttle to Start Line
There will be unlimited, all day parking facilities available at Glendhu Bay. From there you can catch the free shuttle bus from Glendhu Bay to the Fern Burn car park start line. Shuttles will depart from Glendhu Bay from 5am onwards - please allow at least 30 minutes.
Excess Gear Trailer
A covered gear trailer will be waiting at the start line for you to put any excess clothing/gear into. Please put it in a bag clearly labelled with your name and cellphone number. This trailer will then be driven to the finish line to await your arrival. We take all care but no responsibility for any left in the gear trailer.
Toilets
There are many toilets available at Glendhu Bay and some at Fern Burn car park. If possible, please use the toilets at Glendhu Bay. Four toilets are also available on route, BYO toilet paper.
REGISTRATION
Registration will take place on Friday 9 March at the Lone Star, Wanaka (50 Cardrona Valley Road, Wanaka) between 5.30pm and 8pm. We are encouraging teams to register the night before to make things a little easier for everyone, plus you'll get a little more sleep on race morning!
If you are unable to make the registration on Friday, it will be available at the Fern Burn carpark (start line) between 5am - 5:45am.
Entrant List

No Race Packs
We no do not send out race packs. Our main method of communicating important race information, prize giveaways etc to you will be via email newsletters, so it's important to keep your email address up-to-date via your Iconic Profile.
Race Numbers
Race numbers are allocated one to two weeks before the event - you will then be able to view your race number against your entry in your Iconic Profile. You will be given your race number at registration - it should be firmly attached to the front of your top using the safety pins provided.
Personal Locator Beacons
Each team will be provided with a personal locator beacon (PLB) at registration and you will be required to sign a waiver upon collection. Your PLB must be kept with you at all times and carried in such a way as to reduce the chance of accidentally setting it off. If you do happen to set your PLB off by accident the Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand (RCCNZ) asks that you do not switch the device off. RCCNZ must respond to any PLB alert ‐ it’s much easier to find one that is still transmitting than one that is not! Your PLB is only to be used in an emergency situation, such as a severe accident requiring immediate assistance. Any team who sets their PLB off in a non‐critical emergency will be charged any Search and Rescue fees incurred.
TIMING
The Motatapu event timing is outsourced to Time-IT, allowing us to provide you with the most reliable and accurate results possible.
Timing Transponders
You will be given a ShoeTag timing transponder at registration which will detect when you cross the finish line. The Time-IT crew then use this information plus the start time to calculate your final race time. Your ShoeTage timing transponder needs to be firmly attached to your shoe using either your shoe laces. Click here to view instructions on how to fit your transponder.
Error Margins
The timing system has an error margin of 1%, meaning up to 1% of transponders do not record a start/finish time. In these cases there is a manual backup.
Lost Transponders
Should you lose your transponder, please tell an official as soon as you cross the finish line or else you will be marked as DNF (Did Not Finish).
RACE BRIEFING
Click here to view a preview video of your race briefing - you must login to your Iconic Profile to view.
A compulsory Race Director’s briefing will be given at 5.45am on race day, which will include up-to-date course and weather conditions. The briefing will be based on you having read all the information posted in our email newsletters and on the Motatapu Adventure Run section of the website and having viewed the race briefing video.
