NEW FOR 2012

This year you will be given the opportunity the get the best possible start position.  For the Sport field, entry order determines your start position.  The earlier you enter the better your start position, first in, first served!

Previous Competitors

Those who have previously entered the Motatapu or any other Iconic Adventures event between 2007-2011 can enter using your email address and password used previously. If you have forgotten your password please click here to reset your password.

New Competitors

Those new to Iconic Adventures events can set up an Iconic Profile on our website prior to entering the Motatapu 2012 or when you enter the event.

Entry Fees

  • Adult (19+ years): $140
  • Junior (15-18 years): $95

Newsletters & Magazine

Our main method of communicating important race information, prize giveaways etc to you will be via email newsletters, we do not post out race packs. It's therefore important to keep your email address up-to-date (by logging into your Iconic Profile) and to not 'opt out' of the email newsletter prior to the event.

Every competitor will receive a complimentary copy of the Iconic Adventures magazine.  If you enter before 1 Nov your magazine will be posted to you during November, if you enter after 1 Nov your magazine will be posted in mid Feb.  For international competitors your magazine will not be posted, you can collect your magazine from the Info tent at the finish line.

RACE CATEGORIES & DIVISIONS

Categories

Your race category is determined by your age (Junior, Open, Master, Veteran etc) and by Bike NZ rules which explains why the age categories sometimes vary between divisions. To work out which categories you can choose from, click here. If you wish to race in a category below your current age category (e.g. you are a master and want to race in the open category) please request a category transfer through your Iconic Profile. Racing in a category above your current age category is not permitted.

Divisions

Your race division is determined by your speed and your ability - Elite, Sport and Recreation. Those who qualify can enter into the Elite division and those that do not can choose between Sport division and Recreational division. Please try to you place yourself in the correct division based on your ability. See below for expected times.

Elite Division - FULL FOR 2012 EVENT

For Motatapu 2012 we are limiting the Elite Division to 100 competitors (In 2011 there were 140 Elite competitors, first to enter & qualify will make up the field of 100). To qualify for the Elite division you need have at least one of the following:

  • Be Mountain Bike New Zealand (MTBNZ) registered Elite Rider
  • Have a previous Motatapu MTB Elite Male race time of under 2:40:00
  • Have a previous Motatapu MTB Elite Female or Junior race time of under 3:30:00
  • Have other event times that would mean you are likely to be within these times (please contact us to see if you will qualify).

Sport Division

This division is open to those that do not qualify as Elite but who expect to complete the course in 3 to 4 hours.  For 2012 we are giving you the opportunity to get the best possible start position.  For the Sport division entry order determines your start position.  The earlier you enter the better your start position, first in, first served!  Starting waves will consist of 180-200 bikers with each of the waves starting a few minutes apart.  Waves will be visible by different coloured race numbers.

Recreational Division

This division is recommended for those who are new to mountain bike events, just out for an enjoyable ride, or expect to complete the course in more than 4 hours for the glory of a finisher’s medal.  Unlike the Sport division entry order has no effect on starting position, all Recreational riders will begin after the Sport division.

Team Entries

If you wish to enter a team into the Motatapu Mountain Bike please click here for more details, all competitors in your team must already be entered as an individual.

 ENTRY UPDATES & CHANGES

The final date for any entry changes is 15 Feb @ 5pm.

Entry Changes

To change any Motatapu MTB entry, for example the race category you are currently entered into, will incur a $20 admin fee. You will receive an email confirmation at the completion of the process. You can apply to change your category or division through your Iconic Profile.  No changes can be made after 15 Feb 2012, 5pm.

Entry Transfers

To transfer your Motatapu MTB entry to someone else, complete the Transfer form, found in your Iconic Profile before 15 Feb 2012, 5pm. The buyer must be pre-registered on our website in order to receive the transfer. The seller must have the buyer’s full name & email address in order to complete the transfer. The buyer will be sent an email prompting them to complete a few details and provide credit card details as a $20 transfer fee will apply.  Once all details are completed and the transfer is accepted an email confirmation will be sent to both parties. Transfers within Elite Division will be subject to approval – please contact us if you wish to do this.

Racing Under Someone Else's Name

Please do not race under someone else's name! It causes a major safety hazard should the false competitor be involved in an accident; we are without correct name and details, nor any emergency contact details. Racing under someone else’s name results in disqualification of both the original and false competitors from the race, and ineligibility for any merit or spot prizes. Both parties may also be banned from entering any future Iconic Adventure events.

Entry Withdrawal

If you wish to withdraw from the Motatapu MTB event please login to your Iconic Profile and apply to withdrawal, please note the final date to notify us of a withdrawal is 15 Feb 2012, 5pm. Your withdrawal and refund (if applicable, see below) will be processed within one week and you will receive email confirmation of your withdrawal. There will be no roll over of any withdrawn entry to the next year's event.  You do not need to notify us of withdrawals after 15 Feb 2012, your entry will be recorded as DNS (Did Not Start).
