STARTING

GETTING TO THE START LINE

Glendhu Bay, 12km outside of Wanaka, is the drop off, parking and registration area for the XTERRA Motatapu Triathlon event. The only facility at Glendhu Bay is a campground, so any last minute purchases should be made from Wanaka.

A map of the Glendhu Bay parking, registration, and start areas will be available soon.

Driving There

Note that there will be heavy traffic flows heading towards Glendhu Bay on event day - please factor this into your travel time and take extreme care, watching for sudden stops in traffic. The Wanaka A&P show is the same weekend as the Motatapu so there will be a road closure in Wanaka on McDougall St between Brownston & Ardmore Streets. To download a map which includes driving times, distances, and recommended routes click here.

Parking/Drop Offs

Please follow the directions of traffic marshalls as to where to drop off competitors and/or park all day, as the set up often changes each year. If you arrive at Glendhu Bay before marshalls are in place, please follow signs, and try to keep noise to a minimum.

Toilets

Toilets will be available at Glendhu Bay start line.

REGISTRATION

UPDATED!

There are TWO options for registration and you must let us know where you will be registering by 1 March 2012 (we will prompt you via email to confirm which registration you will be attending, but feel free to contact us and let us know where you will be registering for the event)

Option 1 - Butlers Green, Arrowtown - Friday 9 March

Registration will be available from 5.30pm until 8pm at Butlers Green, Arrowtown (location of the finish line and transition 2).

Option 2 - Lone Star, Wanaka - Friday 9 March

Registration will be available from 5.30pm until 8pm at the Lone Star, Wanaka (50 Cardrona Valley Road, Wanaka).

If you cannot make either of these registration locations or times please contact us

Registration Notes

INDIVIDUALS - At both registration locations you will be required to leave your Transition 2 (T2) bag (this bag will be supplied at rego for you to place your gear inside), this will be cable tied closed and placed in T2 for you against your race number within the transition area (cable ties will be cut on race morning for you to easily access your belongings). A diagram of how the transition area will be set up will be posted here prior to race day.

You will be given a bag for your T1 gear and while passing through T1 you must put all your belongings you want taken to the finish line inside your T1 bag, we take no responsibility for gear that is not placed inside the T1 bag. You can collect your T1 bag from the gear trailer at the finish line, where you must present your race number to collect the bag.

TEAMS - for teams only one team member needs to attend registration and collect the required items. For teams the following must be observed for changeovers.

Transition 1 (T1)

At T1 there will be an area just before the bike racks where the swimmer can tag the biker, it is important that the timing transponder is transferred between team mates (T1 team tag area).

Transition 2 (T2)

At T2 there will be an area AFTER the cyclist has racked their bike where they can tag the runner, it is important that the timing transponder is transferred between team mates (T2 team tag area).

Entrant List

No Race Packs

We do not post out race packs. Our main method of communicating important race information, prize giveaways etc to you will be via email newsletters, so it's important to keep your email address up-to-date via your Iconic Profile.

Race Numbers

Race numbers are allocated one to two weeks before the event - you will then be able to view your race number against your entry in your Iconic Profile. You will be given 2 race numbers at registration - one for your bike which should be firmly attached to your handlebars and brake cables using the cable ties provided and one for the front of your running top attached with the saftey pins provided (race belts can be worn, please ensure your race number is visible from the front).

RACE BRIEFING

A compulsory Race Director’s briefing will be given at 9.30am on race day near the start line. It will include up-to-date course and weather conditions. The briefing will be based on you having read all the information posted in our email newsletters and on the XTERRA Motatapu Triathlon section of the website.

TIMING

The Motatapu event timing is outsourced to Time IT who use Times-7's patented technology, allowing us to provide you with the most reliable and accurate results possible.

Timing Transponders

You will be given a multisport timing transponder at registration which will detect when you cross the finish line.  The multisport transponder must be attached to your ankle with the velcro strap provided. Your split times will be recorded manually at each transition, so it is very important to have your race number visible for the timing crew to view and record.  Your spilt times will be available the day after the race, your finish time will be available on race day.

Error Margins

The timing system has an error margin of 1%, meaning up to 1% of transponders may not record a finish time.  In these cases there is a manual back up.
